The Amputee/Original painting by Essediya Halloâ

In The Amputee, the artist gives form to a silent scream. The painting stages an inner confrontation: that of an individual facing the weight of a dominant collective. Three figures with piercing gazes occupy the top of the composition, merging into a shapeless mass that resembles a powerful wave crashing down. Their eyes alone are enough — they judge, dominate, impose.
Below, alone, stands a single figure. It has no mouth — amputated, stripped of its ability to speak. Its gaze is lifted toward the three eyes above, not with admiration, but in a quiet, almost painful tension.
Warm and cool colors intertwine across the canvas, reflecting the emotional turmoil: the desire to speak versus the need to remain silent. Because sometimes, to survive in a world that refuses to listen, it feels safer to keep one’s thoughts unspoken. This work expresses that forced renunciation, the silent violence of being different in a world overcome by noise.

This untitled work is a free and intuitive expression of a woman’s inner complexity, embodying strength, protection, and vulnerability.

The portrait depicts a woman with long, flowing hair in vibrant hues—yellow, blue, orange, red, and black—that surrounds her like a living aura. This hair takes on a symbolic form, becoming a nurturing gesture, shaped like a generous breast resting on her shoulder, evoking motherhood and self-giving. Within this flowing hair, three subtle, childlike faces appear—delicately sketched, almost blending into the texture—a tender and intimate presence.

The woman appears both upright and collapsed. Two emotional states coexist: resilience and exhaustion, awakening and rest, strength and silent fatigue.

Through this painting, the artist gives form to the duality of maternal love: the power to protect and the invisible price of total self-giving. The abundance of colors and the freedom of the brushstroke convey a raw emotion, carried by an expressionist and symbolic visual language.

The Connected Woman
The Connected Woman is a female portrait that questions our relationship with new technologies. Created at a time when mobile phones were just beginning to enter our daily lives, this piece captures both the wonder, the fascination, and the subtle isolation brought on by this silent revolution.

At the center of the painting, a woman holds a mobile phone in her hand. Around her head, circular patterns suggest the constant flow of connections, data, and absorbed thoughts. The dominant colors — turquoise blue, yellow, and white — evoke the glow of a screen, the excitement of novelty, and the sensation of being trapped in a digital bubble.

This expressive piece raises a question that remains relevant today:
What do we do with this constant connection — and who are we when we disconnect?

“Puppets 2” is the sequel to my previous work, “Puppets 1,” created a year earlier. In this new piece, I further explore the human condition through the symbolic imagery of puppets. The characters are animated by intense emotions, expressing both fragility and silent resistance.

The color palette remains consistent with that of the first work, reinforcing a visual and emotional continuity within a strong expressionist and symbolic aesthetic.

This is an original work, expressing the invisible forces that draw us in, the struggle for autonomy, and the inner evolution of emotions.
